Introduction

Nepal is a multilingual, multiethnic, and multi-religious country. Mid and Eastern Tharu (ME Tharu) is one of the nationalities in Nepal. ME Tharu’s residence has been found in the range of Jhapa district in the east up to Parsha in the west of Nepal. In Nepal, Tharu people group in general is recognized by their own mother language, “Tharu” though, ME Tharu people are not recognized by the government as a unique ethnic language group. Tharu language community practices their own unique language, art, culture, traditions, values, religion, attire and houses. The approximate population of these people are around one million and five hundred thirty thousand.
